Fall – Early Winter Events
We’ve certainly turned the weather corner from the beautiful late-summer outdoor events to the ‘perpetual drizzle’ of a Pacific Northwest Fall and Winter. (Snow?? Yikes!!)  I know that many of you are starting to plan for indoor flying and kite making.  Many of those types of events are coming up in the remainder of 2017 and first quarter 2018.

Here’s a preview:

  • Dec 2  -  Kites & Bites Event at Prism Kites, 4214 24th Ave W, Seattle – starting at 11:00 AM.  There will be prizes, a raffle, food, drinks, and more going on.  Check it out if you can!
  • Dec 2  -  Annual PCKA / WKA Party and Indoor Fun Fly,  Mountain View Lutheran Church, Edgewood, WA, from Noon to 9:00 PM.  Indoor flying starts at noon and we will begin set up for the dinner/evening raffle at 5:00.  As usual, the dinner format is Potluck, with the Club stalwarts providing the Turkey & Ham.
  • Jan 11 (4:00 PM) – Jan 14 (1:00 PM), Oregon Kitemaker’s Retreat,  18705 US-101 N. Rockaway Beach. OR.  Registration is open now.  In fact, some classes may be filling at this point.
  • Jan. 20–21  Windless Kite Festival, Long Beach WA.  -  Long Beach Elementary School. Doors open at 8:30 AM for warm up flying and lessons.  Check with the International Kite Museum Web site for information about guest flyers and kite building activities.
  • Sat. & Sun. Jan. 28–29 & Feb. 4 & 5, Asian New Year Exhibit,  International Kite Museum, Long Beach WA.  Regular Museum Hours (11:00 Am to 5:00 PM)  – Kites and kite art from ten Asian nations.  Sample cuisine from different Asian cultures and opportunities to build traditional kites and art projects.
  • Feb. 17–19  Rod Beamguard Kite Workshop, International Kite Museum, Long Beach WA.  -  Rod always brings an interesting and attractive kite as the subject for these workshops.  Check with the Kite Museum for prices and details on this workshop.
  • Mar. 10–11  Linda Saunders Workshop, International Kite Museum, Long Beach WA.  -  The ever popular Linda Saunders checks in at the Kite Museum to work her workshop magic.  Details are TBD, but I hope it’s a banner project.  Check with the Kite Museum for prices and details on this workshop.
  • Mar 15 – 18  Fort Worden KiteMakers Conference, Warm Springs Conference Center, Stanwood WA.  Instructors and classes have been finalized and registration is now open.  Check the www.kitemakers.org website for details.
  • March 17  Entiat Rites of String Kite Festival, Kiwanis Park in Entiat along highway 97A between Wenatchee and Chelan. Contact Alan Moen for details - alanmoen@nwi.net or 509-784-5101
  • March 24  Kites Over KingstonKingston, WA. from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM (Setup: 10 to 11 AM, Breakdown 3 to 4 PM). For additional information, contact Brittany VanderPol - 360-773-8047
Shoreline ‘Kite Night’ Indoor Flies – Bob Plant has kicked off this series of indoor flies in the Shoreline area.  These first of these took place on November 21st.  These flys are held at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 18826 3rd Ave NW, Shoreline, WA.  and typically run from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  Watch this “Announcements” page and e-mails for future flying dates.
