We still need Pictures! –
Let’s keep the Website fresh with pictures from current events.  As we move through June and look forward to July, it would be nice to see some pics from Festival of Colors, the Beacon Hill Community Festival, the Pacific Rim Festival, and the Chinese Garden event.  If you have interesting or humorous photos to share, please send them in to Casey ( or Butch (

5th Annual Chinese Garden Kite Festival
This popular annual festival for all ages and skill levels is a fun afternoon
of kite flying in the big field and enjoying entertainment in the courtyard.
Bring your own kite or buy an inexpensive one at the festival.
Every year flying fans bring special kites -- dragons, butterflies, a panda,
planes, a big box kite, or beautiful hand-made original creations.
What will fill the sky on June 24?
The youngest fliers have fun coloring and decorating easy-to-fly kites
that are available for purchase ~ decorating materials provided.
The festival is held from 2-6 PM at  South Seattle Chinese Garden, 6000 16th Ave SW (South Seattle College).

New Seattle Event –
The WKA and other clubs have been invited to participate in the July 16th Seattle Peace Concert at Gas Works park from Noon to 6PM.  The Peace Concerts are non-political events that feature music, kids’ activities, and food/art booths.
The Peace Concert folks are excited that we are participating and have gone out of their way to support us.  They have given us all of Gas Works Hill as a flying area and have provided parking areas reserved for kite flyers nearest the Hill.  Attending kite flyers can arrive before noon to move equipment and set up.  (In fact, I’d recommend it.)
We’ve also had some interesting conversations with the Peace Concert people about their reserved day on September 24th.  This is a ‘rain out’ day – basically an extra reserved day at Gas Works park in case one of their concerts at other parks are rained out during the summer.  The Peace Concert folks have offered to sponsor us on this September 24th date if they use it. Or, have offered to negotiate with the Seattle Parks Department to give us use of the park on that date at the park if they don’t need to use it.  We will keep you informed as to the status of this potential September 24 flying date.
For more information about the July 16th Peace Concert event,  please contact Casey at or by phone at: 206-280-7187.
